Sell Car
February 21, 2009 9:44 am AutosHave you ever noticed that many ads use a kind of shorthand when they use phrases like ‘sell car’? Perhaps the expense of typesetting or the amount of words in their copy limits them to what they can express. Take ‘sell car’ though, on its own it really doesn’t make much sense if it were the bold headline of an advertisement. Is it an order, you must sell your car now – or else? Is it a question (the absence of a question mark is no indication as to whether this is a statement or not)? Is someone trying to sell a car to you or are you trying to sell a car to them? Hmmm, to sell car or not to sell car that is the question.
