Victorian engagement rings are referred to as antique jewelry because they were produced more than 50 years ago. Anything produced less than 50 years ago is an estate ring. Victorian engagement rings rose to prominence during the reign of Queen Victoria. Yellow or rose gold often formed the base of the ring, and gemstones like ruby, sapphire, emerald, diamond, garnet, and amethyst adorned it. Sometimes, the precious stones would be arranged in order so that the first letter of each stone would come together as one word. The industrial revolution, new discoveries and excavations around the world, and the rise of romanticism in England contributed to the new and emerging styles of these wonderful rings
